People need brands as much as products do. They tell the world who we are and what we stand for.
In today’s turbulent times, with the financial sector crumbling and many jobs becoming more and more insecure, professional women need strong personal brands like never before.
If you are not in control of your job, at least you want to be in control of your brand and what it does for your career.
When I chose “Branding Yourself” as the topic of my presentation at the TIAW Global Partnership Forum in Toronto next month, I didn’t know it would be so topical…
I am looking forward to the Forum.

We have some great speakers this year: Maureen Kempston Darkes, who is President of General Motors for Latin America, Africa and Middle East and is considered the most powerful woman in the automotive industry; Annette Verschuren, President and CEO of The Home Depot for Canada and Asia and Janet Riccio, who leads G23 a new agency of the global advertising giant Omnicom specialised in marketing to women.
I am delighted that our World of Difference Award will go to Haifa Al Kaylani, Chairman of one of my favourite networks, the Arab International Women’s Forum.
And yes…. I am excited to have been nominated Second Vice President of TIAW. It will be so much fun to serve under the presidency of my friend and mentor Diane.

I’ve been branding myself through The Elektrik Zoo since 2000. In 2002, Patrick joined me. It is our brand, and we have been finding our way for these past 6 years. The Elektrik Zoo is where all of our work sits, and the website has been evolving since we joined forces. I say evolving because we evolve as people. We change. But our character doesn’t change. We are no Home Depot or General Motors, but we can learn a lot from these companies about branding.
Hope you are well!
Daneeta, that’s an interesting point. Our personal brand is probably a reflection of our character. The different parts of our character are the components of our brand.
Can’t wait to visit yo in the US
